Ajinkya Rahane’s is a truly inspiring story for young cricketers. Born in a poor family, Ajinkya Rahane struggled quite a lot to either get his cricket kit or to attend the cricket coaching in Mumbai. This diminutive Mumbai cricketer has worked extremely hard to reach the place where he is now in world cricket.
Rahane is a committed, well disciplined cricketer. There is nothing fancy in his game and he is quite a non-controversial, non-glamorous cricketer who goes about his job without any fuss. Ajinkya has proved himself at the international level with some great knocks abroad in Test cricket.
Ajinkya Rahane has always been a heavy scorer in domestic cricket ever since his first-class debut in 2007. Rahane looks like any other unsung and under-rated batsman but what has surprised everyone is that he has grown into a world-class performer out of nowhere.
Rahane who bats in the top order has all the shots in the book and is blessed with the right technique and most importantly with patience – a factor that seems to be missing in the present day young batsmen. What has been heartening is that Ajinkya Rahane has quickly become a reliable Test batsman for India in the middle order something which the team needed badly after the retirement of the fab four.
It was perhaps his stint with the Rajasthan Royals that Ajinkya Rahane has forced his way into the Indian team. Despite being of a very small built, Rahane has shown that he can carve the ball out of the park and hit boundaries whenever the need arises. And with a compact technique and being a good puller of the ball against the quicks, Ajinkya Rahane has delivered the goods at the highest level for India in difficult overseas conditions. Rahane is now on par or perhaps second to Virat Kohli as India’s best batsman in the longer format of the game.
