Shaun Marsh also gets a recall while there was place for two uncapped players in Western Australia wicket keeper batsman Cameron Bancroft and South Australia fast bowler Chadd Sayers.

There was no place though for Matthew Wade, Matt Renshaw and Glenn Maxwell.

The opening Ashes Test begins at the Gabba in Brisbane from 23 November. Even a new look Aussie team could turn out to be tough for the Englishmen to beat, especially down under where it has never been easy for any visiting side to beat the hosts.

Former English wicket keeper Geraint Jones reiterates the same point to Betway Insider on how difficult is to play down under and on top of it try to get the better of the Aussies to beat them.

England are 3/1 outsiders to win The Ashes 2017/18 series according to betting reports.

The Guardian reports that Australia could make half a dozen changes going into the first Ashes Test compared to the playing XI that featured in the team’s last test against Bangladesh at Chittagong.

As per the publication, Australia XI could retain only Steve Smith, David Warner, Peter Handscomb, Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins from the playing XI that played in the Chittagong Test in September.

Tim Paine’s selection has come as a huge surprise given that he could not make it in the Tasmanian team for the first two rounds of the Sheffield Shield. One may wonder if it was his 52 in a tour game against England for Cricket Australia XI at Adelaide that has impressed the selectors.

Tim Paine did make it back in the Tasmanian line-up, however, in the role of a specialist batsman. His batting stats are not great though which just one century in first-class cricket in 91 matches, that too some ten years ago!

Commenting on Tim Paine’s selection for the first two Ashes Test matches, Trevor Hohns, the Interim Chairman of Selectors of the Australian team has been quoted in Cricket Australia website, saying: “Tim was identified as an international player a long time ago and has always been renowned as a very good gloveman, also performing well for us whenever he has represented Australia in any format.

“His batting form in recent outings for the Cricket Australia XI and Tasmania has been good.”
