Barbados Tridents are CPL T20 2014 Champions!

The Kieron Pollard led Barbados Tridents became the CPL T20 2014 Champions after downing the Guyana Amazon Warriors in a rain-affected final at the Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts.

Asked to bat first by Denesh Ramdin, Barbados Tridents posted a competitive total of 152 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs. Opener Dwayne Smith laid the foundation with his 59 from 52 balls which had 6 fours and 3 sixes. Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik gave the finishing with an unbeaten 55 from 42 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

For the Guayana Amazon Warriors, left-arm medium pacer Krishmar Santokie took 3 for 19 in 4 overs while Sunil Narine was outstanding as usual with figures of 2 for 20 in 4 overs. Mohammad Hafeez too played part in the strangulation with 4-0-21-0.

In reply, Guyana Amazon Warriors were slightly cautious to begin with and got themselves into a hole at 76 for 4 in the 13th over losing four of its best batsmen. When rain arrived to have the last laugh, Guyana Amazon Warriors were 107 for 4 in 15.5 overs which was 9 runs short of the Duckworth/Lewis Target.

The bowling hero for the Barbados Tridents was the tall fast bowler Jason Holder who bowled out his 4 overs giving away only 18 while taking two wickets.

Shoaib Malik of Barbados Tridents was named as the Man of the Match. The bigger award of the Man of the Tournament went to Lendl Simmons of the Guayana Amazon Warriors.
