Bowling first after winning the toss, MS Dhoni found himself in a tricky situation as Kolkata Knight Riders began with a bang through its openers Robin Uthappa and Skipper Gautam Gambhir. Uthappa scored 39 from 32 balls while Gautam Gambhir consolidated his start to finish with a well constructed 80 from 52 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes.

Despite the blazing start of 91 in 10.5 overs, KKR somehow didn’t sustain the pressure on CSK by losing wickets at regular intervals and also slowing down in finding the boundaries. A terrific last over from Yusuf Pathan taking veteran pacer Ashish Nehra for 19 runs helped KKR to finish with 180 for 6.

Pawan Negi was the star with the ball for the Chennai Super Kings taking a record 5 for 22 in his 4 overs with his traditional slow left-arm spin. Ravindra Jadeja also bowled well to take 1 for 25 in 4 overs.

In their run chase, Chennai Super Kings lost the big wicket of Dwayne Smith in the fifth ball of the run chase when he was yorked by a slower one from Pat Cummins. CSK recovered quickly after that early blow as Brendon McCullum and Suresh Raina mixed responsibility with aggression to lay the foundation of the chase with an 118-run stand.

Brendon McCullum contributed 39 from 34 balls. Suresh Raina continued the onslaught to finish with an unbeaten 109 from 62 balls with 6 fours and 8 sixes. Skipper MS Dhoni complemented Raina with a cameo of 23 not out from 14 balls as CSK got to the target with 9 balls to spare.

The KKR bowling unit with the absence of Sunil Narine wasn’t that threatening. Not one bowler could contain the CSK batsmen for Gautam Gambhir.

As far as the presentation ceremony of the OPPO Champions League Twenty20 2014 goes, Pawan Negi bagged the Man of the Match. Suresh Raina was the Player of the Tournament and also the Golden Bat winner. Sunil Narine was the Golden Wicket winner for taking most number of wickets.
