Ind vs Eng Mumbai Test result : R Ashwin bagged 12 for 167 as England surrendered an innings and 36-run defeat to India in the fourth Test at Mumbai on Monday.

Batting first after winning the toss at the Wankhede Stadium, England scored an impressive 400 but could not prevent India from piling up 631 on a pitch that had lots of turn and bounce.

England with a first innings deficit of 231 runs, collapsed to 195 in their second innings.

The English first innings was very promising with debutant Keaton Jennings scoring century on Test debut with 112 while Jos Buttler (76) and Moeen Ali (50) contributed with half centuries. For India, R Ashwin bagged 6 for 112 and Ravindra Jadeja took 4 for 109.

India in reply had Murali Vijay setting tone for a big total with his knock of 136. Skipper Virat Kohli scored a career best of 235, his third double century in the year.

All-rounder Jayant Yadav scored his maiden Test century with his 104 to prove that he is a top class batsman not just at the first class level but also at the international stage.

For England, Adil Rashid toiled hard to take 4 for 192 while Moeen Ali and Joe Root took two wickets each.

In their second innings, England lost first innings centurion Keaton Jennings for a first ball duck, lbw to Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

On day four, they were on the mat at 182 for 6 and on the fifth day morning were cleaned up by R Ashwin who finished the match with 6 for 55 while claiming his 7th ten-wicket in a match. Joe Root with 77 and Jonny Bairstow with 51 provided some sort of resistance for England.

India with this win hold an unassailable lead of 3-0 with the first Test at Rajkot resulting in a draw.

Virat Kohli got the Man of the Match for taking the contest away from the visitors. The fifth and final Test match will be at Chennai from December 16, in a city that has been shattered by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha death news earlier in the month followed by the devastating Cyclone Vardah on Monday.
