New Zealand made solid progress on a rain curtailed second day’s play at Green Park in Kanpur with a score of 152 for 1 having bowled out India for 318.
The homeside began the second day’s play at 291 for 9 with not much of hope left to extend the innings. However, the last wicket pair of Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav did well to stretch the total past 300.

Ravindra Jadeja after a long time came up with a decent innings with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 42 from 44 balls with 7 fours and a six.
Neil Wagner finished the Indian innings with a short ball that was gloved behind to the wicket keeper by last man Umesh Yadav (9).
Just like the Indian innings, New Zealand seemed to have got off to a good start before they lost their first wicket in the 10th over. Umesh Yadav gave the initial breakthrough for the hosts with a full length delivery which trapped Martin Guptill lbw for 21 with the right hander playing all across the line.
After the first wicket, India couldn’t sustain any sort of pressure as Skipper Kane Williamson and left-hander Tom Latham took control while having no problems against the Indian spin duo.
Just before tea on Day 2, light rain arrived which intensified after the break. Play had to be called off with only 56 overs bowled on the second day.
New Zealand at stumps on Day 2 are just 166 runs behind India’s first innings total with nine wickets in hand.
Tom Latham has worked his way to an unbeaten 56 while Kane Williamson has got to 65 not out. Much is expected from Ross Taylor on the third day to put the Kiwis in command along with his Captain Williamson.
India on the other hand needs to get its act quickly to ensure that they take wickets in a hurry and try to keep the NZ lead to as low as possible.
