India are off to a 1-0 lead after thrashing Sri Lanka by a big margin of 169 runs at Cuttack in the 1st ODI on the 2nd of this month. Openers Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan smashed centuries while Suresh Raina came up with the fireworks scoring a rapid half century in what was his 200th ODI. Sri Lanka fell flat in the run chase with its batsmen unable to cope up with the extra speeds and bounce from the Indian fast bowlers. Spinners did a neat job in the middle to ensure that Sri Lanka could never recover.

Well at Ahmedabad, the surface has traditionally been good for spinners and this being a One Day International, the Curator must have taken care to make it good for the batsmen. Reports are that the pitch has more grass than ever before but that could only to bind together the cracks on it.

Going into this 2nd ODI at Motera in Ahmedabad, India have been depleted because of the injury to its fastest bowler ever that is Varun Aaron. The Selectors have replaced this 150-kmph fast bowler with Karnataka all-rounder Stuart Binny who averages at just about 125 kmph. Most likely its going to be Dhawal Kulkarni who could fill up for Varun Aaron ahead of Stuart Binny.

India led by Virat Kohli has surely looked the better of the two sides although it has been just the one match in this series. The bowling from Sri Lanka looks weak in the absence of Lasith Malinga and Rangana Herath. Suraj Randiv who is expected to be the lead spinner has been taken to the cleaners at Cuttack. Medium pacer Lahiru Gamage started off well with the new ball but only to crumble under pressure later on. He is likely to give way to the wiry and more experienced Suranga Lakmal.

Will Angelo Mathews’ boys manage to turn things around in this series remains to be seen. The Sri Lankan team looked rusty in the first match with the batsmen with the exception of Mahela Jayawardene struggling to find their feet and timing. Kumar Sangakkara who is otherwise a safe wicket keeper dropped Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane early on in the Cuttack ODI and we know what happened after that.
