Ishant Sharma goes as one of the most hated cricketers for Indian fans because he promises a lot but hardly delivers the results. He can be really frustrating at times, struggling to take any wickets and yet keep on getting to play for India. On his day though, this Delhi boy has shown that he can win the odd Test match here and there.
When he arrived in 2007 as a teenager, Ishant Sharma was a sensation. At a unique height of 6 ft 4 inch for an Indian, Ishant Sharma has the advantage of getting steep bounce off normal length deliveries. He first shot to fame when his bouncy indippers made Ricky Ponting absolutely clueless.
Ishant Sharma does have the ability to bowl at 145 kmph although he tends to bowl within himself. On most occasions he hardly puts any efforts and just goes through hurling the ball at harmless speeds of around 130 kmph!
Ishant Sharma, the tall lanky fast bowler had promised a lot when he first arrived in 2007 but has delivered results well below the expectations! At a height of 6ft 4 inch, Ishant Sharma had all the makings to become a world class fast bowler for India. He was expected to be another great bowler like Javagal Srinath but Ishant all these years has done only just enough to keep his place in the Indian team much to the frustration of the fans.
This Delhi fast bowler made his Test debut against Bangladesh at Dhaka and followed it up with an ODI debut against South Africa at Belfast in the same year 2007 at the age of just 18. It was the tour of Australia 2007/08 in which Ishant Sharma showed his great promise. With sharp speeds of 140 kmph, Ishant Sharma made the great Ricky Ponting hop to his bowling and eventually bowled him through the gate with his indipper.
Ishant Sharma has regularly found a place in the Indian team especially in Test matches overseas. So far he hasn’t done anything spectacular to win matches for India except for the odd spell here and there. Having started off his international career early, Ishant who is just into his mid 20s has gained plenty of experience already at the highest level. And has plenty of time in his hands to transform himself into a much better performer than what he has been so far.
