The 32-year-old middle order batsman had missed the ODI series against Sri Lanka owing to a hamstring injury. His inclusion in the India ODI squad for South Africa 2018 comes after a clearance from the Indian cricket team physiotherapist Patrick Farhart.

Speedsters Mohammed Shami and Mumbai’s Shardul Thakur also make a comeback in the Indian ODI squad.

The selectors continued to snub R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja by sticking with the trio of Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel. Both Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have been very successful taking a number of wickets in their recent outings.

The 17-member India ODI squad for South Africa 2018 will be led by Virat Kohli who missed out the Sri Lanka ODI and T20I series because of his wedding with Bollywood heroine Anushka Sharma.

Washington Sundar and Siddharth Kaul who had been part of the ODI series against Sri Lanka have been left out.
