SL Tour of Pak 2017 : Sri Lanka is all set to tour Pakistan after a gap of eight years since the deadly 2009 terror attack in Lahore where its team bus was attacked by terrorists.

However, the catch is that there will be just the one lone T20 between the two teams that will be played in Pakistan at Lahore on 29 October. It will however be part of a full series between the teams that would feature a couple of Test matches, five ODIs and three T20s.

The Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2017 cricket series will be primarily played in the United Arab Emirates at Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. It will begin from 28 September with the first Test at Abu Dhabi.

According to a press release from the Pakistan Cricket Board, the Pak vs SL Lahore T20 match will be subject to security clearance.

The Lahore T20 would follow an earlier Zimbabwe Tour of Pakistan and an upcoming World XI tour of Pakistan with both arranged by the Pakistan Cricket Board towards bringing back international cricket back on its soil.

The biggest test for Lahore will come late this month when it will host three T20s between Pakistan and the touring World XI.

International cricket eluded Pakistan ever since the 3 March 2009 Lahore terror attack which targeted the Sri Lankan cricket team bus. The bus carrying the touring Sri Lankan national cricket team came under fire from a dozen terrorists just before it was heading to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore for the third day of the Pak vs SL 2nd Test 2009.

Six Sri Lankan cricketers – Thilan Samaraweera, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Tharanga Paranavitana, Chaminda Vaas, Ajantha Mendis and Suranga Lakmal sustained bullet and shrapnel injuries. Fortunately, there were no casualties among the cricketers in the Lahore terror attack 2009 that was believed to have been carried out by the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi terror group.

The Sri Lankan team was eventually air-lifted by a helicopter from the Gaddafi Stadium.
