Left-handed opener Upul Tharanga has been recalled into the Sri Lankan test team after a gap of more than six years! The Lankans made four changes in their 15-man squad to face South Africa in a two-match Test Series.
The 29-year-old Upul Tharanga who has been quite a success in the ODI format of the game replaces Dimuth Karunaratne w1ho gets dropped following a modest performance. Dimuth Karunaratne could score only two half centuries in the 17 innings he has had in Test cricket.
Tharanga has 13 centuries to his credit in ODIs while he has a century and three fifties in the 15 Tests he has played but at a below par average of around 28.00.
The injured duo of fast bowler Nuwan Pradeep and Wicket Keeper Prasanna Jayawardene have been omitted from the squad. Medium pacer Nuwan Kulasekara has been dropped to accommodate the much quicker Suranga Lakmal who has recovered from a hamstring injury.
Also making it to the 15-man squad is Ajantha Mendis and middle order bat Kithuruwan Vithanage.
The first of the two-match Test Series begins on Wednesday at Galle.
