India won the third Test at Gros Islet by 237 runs after bundling out West Indies cheaply for 108 on the final day.

The tourists with this victory in the WI vs Ind 3rd Test have sealed the 4-match series 2-0.

It was an incredible win for India as none had expected the Test match to end in a result after the third day’s play was completely washed out due to rain, and prior to that just 11 wickets falling down in the first two days.

The visitors batted for nine more overs on the final day morning before declaring their second innings at 217 for 7. It was sort of a collapse for them, as they lost four wickets for 60 runs. However, they had got enough on the board already, leaving West Indies a stiff target of 346 in a maximum of 87 overs.

Overnight batsman Rohit Sharma couldn’t add any runs to his 41* as he fell lbw to Miguel Cummins. Ajinkya Rahane collected 27 runs to finish unbeaten on 78 before Virat Kohli declared the innings without giving the former an opportunity to finish a Test century.

The only positive for West Indies on the final day was medium pacer Miguel Cummins claiming a career best of 6 for 48. Those figures also revealed that the pitch had enough life to assist the seamers.

By lunch time, India had taken three wickets leaving West Indies under pressure at 55 for 3. Mohammed Shami started the slide getting Leon Johnson caught at shortleg off a short ball, Bhuvneshwar Kumar trapped the other opener Kraigg Brathwaite lbw with an inswinger while Ishant Sharma joined the party by cleaning up the off stump of Marlon Samuels with one that came back.

After lunch, Ishant Sharma struck again, going through the gate of all-rounder Roston Chase. Ravindra Jadeja made his presence felt by beating Jermaine Blackfoot in the air and with the turn to have him stumped out.

Mohammed Shami returned for another spell to get rid of Shane Dowrich and then to end the resistance from Darren Bravo (59). In between, West Indies captain Jason Holder was run out by a direct throw from R Ashwin who was later named as the Man of the Match.

Ashwin along with Jadeja finished things off taking the last two wickets as West Indies went down without a fight in 47.3 overs.

The fourth and final Test of the series will be played at Port of Span, Trinidad which traditionally has been a happy hunting ground for India.
