It was meant to be a thrilling Autumn of cricket for fans around the world, as the ICC T20 World Cup was supposed to be taking place between October and November. However, the competition was forced to be rearranged due to the travel restrictions in place around the world.
However, the delay means that the ICC T20 World Cup will now take place in an action-packed year of sport, which also includes the Olympic Games and soccer’s European Championships. But, will India be able to win their home World Cup next year?
India In Excellent Form
India will be the leading side in terms of odds with the online cricket betting in India sites, and it’s hard to argue against the odds. They have been in excellent form over the course of the year in one-day matches. India showcased exactly what they are capable of in the T20 game during a whitewash series win against New Zealand back in January. They beat the ODI World Cup finalists with ease, as they claimed a 3-0 series win. Two of these games went to a Super Over, which must be causing New Zealand nightmares at present, as they famously lost the World Cup final to England in a dramatic Super Over.
India were excellent in the final of those five matches to be played, as they scored an impressive 163 from the 20 overs that they faced. Rohit Sharma will once again be the player that the pressure is on at the World Cup next year, but he was impressive during that series as he won the Player of the Series. In the final game, he top-scored for India with 60, while K.L. Rahul scored 45 and Shreyas Iyer scored 33.
It wasn’t just the batters in excellent form, as Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets in that final game, while wickets were also taken by Navdeep Saini and Shardul Thakur. However, it will be a test for India to run out winners as there will be a number of nations gunning for the World Cup honour too.
Other Nations In Contention
There will be two main contenders that India will need to hold off if they are to win the T20 World Cup next year, and they will be Australia and England. The two bitter rivals are the joint-second favourites with the leading sportsbooks, but how they perform next year will be decisive.
England and Australia met in September in a T20 series in England, and they played out a pulsating series. England managed to claim the win overall 2-1, but judging by the performances of both teams, they will be among the teams to watch next year.
England won the opening two matches of the series, with the first of those seeing England produce a stunning comeback to score 162 in their 20 overs to beat Australia’s total of 160. Australia did win the final game of the series by five wickets with three balls left, but India will be wary of the threat that both of these renowned sides possess.
